Carbon Designer 3D Templates

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Carbon Designer 3D Templates allow users with the Power User Pack add-on to create custom reference buildings quickly. This feature is available in the Carbon Designer 3D add-on, which is not included with all licenses.

Creating a Custom Template

1. Design: Create a design in Carbon Designer 3D, selecting a building type, defining the scope, and calculating the geometry. (See the Carbon Designer 3D article for detailed instructions.)

2. Template Type: While you can initially select any building type, the final template will be restricted to the chosen reference building typology (e.g., International reference building) due to data restrictions.

3. Customize: Adjust the constructions and materials within your design.

4. Save: Save your design as a private template.

Saving a Private Template

  1. Name: Your template's name should be clear and descriptive, as it will be visible to all users in your organization.

  2. Include Elements: Choose which building elements to include in your template. Excluded elements will use Carbon Designer 3D's default constructions.

  3. Approval: If you are a "main user," you can save the template directly. Otherwise, a main user in your organization must approve it.

Managing Templates

  • Access: Saved templates are found in your company account under "Data Management" -> "Carbon Designer 3D Templates."

  • Editing:

    • Main users can publish, delete, rename, and restrict templates to specific building types.

    • To edit a template's contents, you must modify the original design in Carbon Designer 3D and resave it as a private template.
