Data & Database Availability in Different Calculation Tools

Updated over a month ago

One Click LCA’s database contains hundreds of thousands of data points; however, not all are available in every calculation tool, as different data will be available depending on the calculation tool requirements and project location. For instance, with the LCA for LEED - North America tool, the available data only includes EPDs and generic data points characterised using the TRACI methodology.

CML, PEF & TRACI Definitions

Succinctly defined, CML is an impact assessment methodology required by the European EN 15978 and EN 15804+A1 standards.

PEF is an evolution of CML, and follows the EN15804+A2 standard. While a number of the impact categories are similar to CML, they are not the same, and can rarely be used together. A further explanation of the differences between +A1 and +A2 impacts can be found here: The New EN 15804 Standard: A Quick Guide (+A1 vs +A2)

TRACI is an environmental impact assessment methodology developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and is being used primarily in the North American markets, i.e., the United States and Canada.

Tool Restrictions

All One Click LCA tools filter data based on resource compatibility with the particular standard or certification they follow. For this reason, a number of resources already included in the One Click LCA database will not be returned when searching within your calculation designs.

For example, you will be unable to find CML or PEF data in a North American tool, as it only supports TRACI data.

Other resources included in the database may only report Global Warming Potential (GWP), and will thus only be available in tools that report GWP and no other impact categories.

Similarly, KBOB data does not typically include mass and can only be used within the Graue Energie tool.
