Introduction
Simplify and scale your LCA/EPD creation process with the Manufacturing Site Data feature. This powerful tool allows you to model your manufacturing site once and reuse that data across all applicable EPDs and designs. This is especially beneficial for organizations with multiple manufacturing sites creating EPDs at scale.
What Data Can Be Stored?
The Manufacturing Site Data feature can store the following information:
Descriptive Information:
Site Name
Company Name
Email
Place of Production
Operational Data:
Manufacturing Site Energy Consumption
Waste Generation
Ancillary Materials
Product Packaging
Supported Tools:
The Manufacturing Site Data feature is currently available for the following tools:
Concrete EPD Generator
Luminaire EPD Generator
One Click LCA Pre-Verified EPD Generator - EI3.8 - IES PCR 1.3.2
EPD Generator for EPD Hub V2
Please note the versions of the above tools using ecoinvent 3.10.1 data will be supported soon.
Creating a Manufacturing Site
You can create a manufacturing site using individual data points or by leveraging private construction groups.
Using Private Construction Groups (Recommended): Private construction groups allow you to bundle related data (e.g., packaging, ancillaries, energy consumption, waste) for easier management. Learn more about creating Private Constructions. Example of private constructions for packaging, ancillaries, energy consumption, and waste per kilogram of product produced is shown below:
Using Individual Data Points: Alternatively, you can input data points individually.
Steps to Create a Manufacturing Site:
Navigate to "Manufacturing sites" in your company account.
Click "Add."
Fill in the descriptive information.
Select the relevant data points or private construction groups for packaging, ancillaries, energy consumption, and waste.
Factory Level Data and Allocation:
If you're using mass allocation (recommended for factory-level data), enter the Annual production volume and Factory level data. This allows for automatic allocation of factory data to the declared unit when loading the site data.
If the data is already allocated, select "No allocation" for the Factory level data. [Include screenshot highlighting Annual production volume and Factory level data sections].
Select the tool(s) for which you want the site data to be available.
Click "Save."
Using Manufacturing Site Data in Your LCA:
Open any query within your design.
Click "Import data" in the top right corner.
Select "Load site data."
Choose the desired manufacturing site from the dropdown menu. This dropdown will only display sites saved for the current tool.
Mass Allocation (If Applicable): If the site uses mass allocation, enter the mass of the declared unit.
Click "Load data."
The descriptive information and data points/private constructions will be automatically populated in the relevant sections of your design.
Benefits of Using Manufacturing Site Data:
Time Savings: Reduce the time spent modeling A3 inputs, allowing you to focus on A1 inputs and scenario-based modules.
Consistency: Ensure data consistency across all your EPDs and designs.
Scalability: Streamline EPD creation at scale.
Verification (For End-to-End Tools)
For end-to-end tools like the Concrete EPD Generator, manufacturing sites require verification before they can be used in an LCA/EPD. For other tools (e.g., EPD Hub V2, Pre-verified EPD Generator), verification is not required, and sites can be used even if they are marked as "Unverified." [Include screenshot showing "Verified" and "Unverified" status].
