IGBC Net Zero Carbon

Updated over a week ago

Overview

One Click LCA supports projects pursuing certification under the IGBC Net Zero Carbon Rating System (Pilot Version). This framework, developed by the Indian Green Building Council, is designed to guide projects towards achieving net zero carbon through embodied and operational carbon reductions.

Our tools enable project teams to calculate embodied carbon, assign EPDs, and document material-related emissions, ensuring compliance with the IGBC rating methodology.

Life-Cycle & Results Scope

Coverage of embodied carbon across A1–A5 (product and construction stages), B4 (replacements), and C1–C4 (end-of-life) stages.

  • Optional inclusion of D-stage benefits (reuse, recycling, energy recovery).

  • Ability to account for operational energy and water consumption to support whole-life carbon balance.

  • Results expressed as kg CO₂e/m² and total project emissions.

Certification & Compliance Scope

One Click LCA supports the following IGBC Net Zero Carbon credit areas:

  • Embodied Carbon of Materials

    • Life-cycle carbon footprint of building materials

    • Substitution with low-carbon alternatives

    • Documenting use of products with EPDs

  • Operational Carbon

    • Recording and tracking operational energy consumption

    • Integration of renewable energy contributions

    • Calculating carbon balance towards net zero

  • Construction & Demolition Waste

    • Accounting for waste and recycling impacts through LCA reporting

Environmental Indicators to Report

IGBC’s Net Zero Carbon rating primarily requires reporting of:

  • Global Warming Potential (GWP) – expressed in kg CO₂e

GWP is the main environmental indicator under this rating, consistent with its focus on achieving net zero carbon.

Data Scope in the Tool

One Click LCA integrates:

  • Indian-specific datasets where available

  • EPDs (EN 15804/ISO-compliant) for construction products

  • Generic material databases for global coverage

  • Data input via BIM, Excel, or manual entry

Guidance

  1. Create a project
Select the Level(s) Carbon tool in One Click LCA.

  2. Set building area
Define the Gross Floor Area (GFA) for normalization.

  3. Add materials

    • Import via BIM, Excel, or manual entry

    • Assign EPDs or generic datasets

    • Add transport distances, wastage, and service life

  4. Add operational data

    • Input annual operational energy use
Add renewable energy contributions if applicable

  5. Run calculations

    • Results include embodied carbon (GWP) and operational carbon impacts

Viewing and Downloading Results

  • Stage-by-stage embodied carbon breakdowns (A–C, optional D)

  • Material-by-material contributions to embodied carbon

  • Energy balance showing operational carbon and renewable offsets

  • Exportable reports aligned with IGBC Net Zero Carbon submission requirements

Special Features

  • Net Zero focus: Combines embodied and operational carbon in one framework

  • EPD-ready workflow: Direct integration of verified product data

  • Evidence-ready outputs: Structured to meet IGBC submission needs

Use Cases

The IGBC Net Zero Carbon workflow in One Click LCA can be used for:

  • Demonstrating compliance with embodied carbon credits

  • Benchmarking embodied and operational carbon across Indian projects

  • Providing CO₂e evidence for certification under IGBC Net Zero Carbon

  • Supporting project teams in achieving net zero carbon targets
