Summary
Generic Construction Data (GCD), UK edition, is a free set of 836 generic UK construction material datasets from One Click LCA. It replaces the ICE (Inventory of Carbon and Energy) datasets, which One Click LCA deactivates on October 1, 2026.
Cost: free for all end users, whether or not you are a One Click LCA customer.
Action needed: none. GCD datasets already sit in your One Click LCA account.
Coverage: an equivalent GCD dataset for every ICE datapoint, plus 257 UK datasets with no ICE counterpart.
Data: cradle-to-gate carbon (GWP) based on EN 15804+A2. One Click LCA customers also get a matching dataset with the full EN 15804+A2 impact set, for use in the platform.

Why GCD replaces ICE
Circular Ecology, the publisher of ICE, is withdrawing ICE from commercial use. Its successor, IC+, is a paid database.
ICE holds around 600 datapoints for UK materials. Until now, One Click LCA included it free as standard in its database. From October 1, 2026, ICE datasets are deactivated in One Click LCA and in every other tool and database that carries them. Each provider chooses its own replacement. One Click LCA's replacement is GCD.
What changes on October 1, 2026
From October 1, 2026, you can no longer add ICE datasets to any design. Your existing work stays intact.

GCD holds 836 generic UK datasets, against 579 in ICE. It covers every ICE dataset and adds 257 datasets with no ICE counterpart. All figures are cradle-to-gate GWP for the UK.

How One Click LCA creates and maintains GCD
One Click LCA builds most GCD datasets by averaging third-party verified UK EPDs, the same method ICE used. Where no EPDs exist for a product type, One Click LCA models the product bottom-up.
Averages of published EPDs (primary method): a statistical average of valid, third-party verified EPDs for comparable products in the UK, with outliers excluded. The result represents a typical product in that category.
Bottom-up modeling (where no EPDs exist): built like an EPD, from a bill of materials and manufacturing processes. Inputs come from datasheets, technical documentation, and scientific LCA studies rather than primary factory data. Covers modules A1 to A3 only.
The averaging step produces the full One Click LCA generic dataset, which customers use in the software. Removing every indicator except GWP produces the matching GCD dataset. Each published GCD dataset describes its source data and assumptions.

The LCA data team behind One Click LCA's database of more than 500,000 datasets maintains GCD with the same process:
Continuous review: the team re-examines category averages as new UK EPDs appear, rather than on a multi-year cycle.
Corrections: when a customer or the data team flags a questionable value, One Click LCA investigates the source data, corrects the dataset, and publishes a new version. The dataset description records the change.

You find and filter GCD datasets in One Click LCA the same way you used ICE. You install nothing: GCD datasets that replace deactivated ICE datasets appear in your account automatically.

Sharing GCD data with clients and partners
Anyone can download GCD datasets (GWP only) for free, subject to terms, so you can share the data behind your results with people who do not use One Click LCA.
This matters if you deliver whole life carbon assessments to clients who want to check each dataset. With ICE, clients could look up the same public datapoint without a software license. GCD keeps that option open: you cite GCD datasets, and your clients download them. The full EN 15804+A2 versions stay in the platform for One Click LCA customers.
Moving from ICE to GCD
Finish any assessment that still needs ICE data before October 1, 2026, then standardize your teams on GCD with one mapping table.
Before October 1, 2026
Finish live assessments. If an assessment still needs ICE datasets, add them before October 1. After that date, you cannot add them to any design.
Check your account. GCD datasets already appear there. You install nothing.
Ask for mapping help. One Click LCA is building a like-for-like dataset finder into the software. Until it launches, your customer success manager can send you a dataset mapping table.
Standardizing across teams
Export. List every ICE dataset in use across your assessments, libraries, and templates.
Map. Match each ICE dataset to its GCD equivalent, one row per dataset. Record any team-specific choice in the same row.
Standardize. Issue the completed table as your internal standard, so every team picks the same GCD dataset for the same material.
If you swap ICE data for GCD in an existing design, expect some results to change.

Do I need to rebuild assessments that use ICE? No. ICE datasets already in a design stay in place, keep calculating, and still appear in reports.
Will my results change if I switch to GCD? They may. GCD averages current UK EPDs, so its values can differ from the ICE datapoints they replace.
Do I pay for GCD? No. GCD is free for all end users, including people who are not One Click LCA customers.
Can I still add ICE datasets after October 1, 2026? No. From that date, ICE datasets no longer appear as selectable options in any design.
Can I get the full EN 15804+A2 indicator set? Yes, if you are a One Click LCA customer. Every GCD dataset has a matching full dataset in the platform.
What happens to ICE data in a project that finishes after October 1, 2026? It stays exactly as it is. ICE datasets already in the project remain in place and keep calculating, and One Click LCA does not replace them with GCD automatically. Any data you add after October 1 comes from GCD or other available datasets.
If I copy a design or project after October 1, 2026, are its ICE datasets copied too? Yes. When you copy a design, its ICE datasets copy with it. You still cannot add new ICE datasets after October 1, 2026.
If a project needs changes at the next design stage, do its ICE datasets stay linked, or do they show as expired? They stay in the project and show as deactivated.
How do I replace ICE data in a live assessment I cannot finish before October 1, 2026? You do not have to: ICE datasets already in the assessment keep working. If you want to switch, replace each ICE dataset the same way you replace any data in One Click LCA. Use the ICE to GCD dataset mapping table to pick the GCD equivalent, and check your results afterwards, since they may change.
Is there an analysis of how moving from ICE to GCD affects project results? Not for full projects yet. One Click LCA has analyzed the increase or decrease in emissions for each mapped datapoint.
Can I still use ICE data for educational purposes? One Click LCA has not yet decided whether to maintain a separate educational version of ICE. One Click LCA educational licenses are always free and offer exactly the same experience as the paid tools.
How accurate and reliable is GCD, and how is it verified? One Click LCA builds most GCD datasets by averaging valid, third-party verified UK EPDs for comparable products, with outliers excluded. Have RICS, the GLA, and other schemes confirmed they accept GCD on the same basis as ICE? You can use GCD data in all of these schemes. Whether they will endorse it remains to be seen: they generally refer to averages or examples rather than endorsing specific datasets. The RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment standard, for example, does not mandate specific ICE datasets, and GCD contains datasets matching each product category assumption in the standard.
Will GCD cover the IStructE datapoints that One Click LCA deactivates? Yes. IStructE datapoints based on ICE used ICE data one to one, so the ICE to GCD dataset mapping table also gives you the replacement for each of them.
Is the mapping table public, or do I need to request it? It is public. Download it from the ICE to GCD dataset mapping table article.
Does the mapping table show A1 to A3 impacts for each ICE dataset and its GCD equivalent? No. The downloadable GCD database shows the emission factor for each dataset.
Can I get a list of ICE and GCD IFC identifiers, including OCLIDs, for Excel imports? Every dataset has a unique ID, which you can find inside One Click LCA.
