What's new in One Click LCA in March 2025

Updated yesterday

Update highlights

  • Experience a faster, more accurate design process with the major overhaul of Carbon Designer 3D.

  • Streamline BIM data imports and visualization with the new IFC File Viewer.

  • Assess circularity more precisely using quantified reversibility results in the Building Circularity tool.

  • Get instant quality feedback on your EPDs with the new automated EPD Quality Checker.

  • Model more accurately using 4,249 new industry datasets and 91 new generic datasets.

Platform & software updates

Accessing training resources is now easier than ever. Users can now log into the One Click LCA Academy using their regular One Click LCA account credentials to access Bootcamps, onboarding courses, and educational content.

Smarter data import capabilities

The data import functionality has been upgraded to support a wider range of units (MJ, MWh, tkm) and now prevents the automatic combining of rows for plugin data, ensuring higher accuracy and granular control over imported datasets.

Building & Infrastructure LCA updates

Enhanced performance and accuracy in Carbon Designer 3D

Carbon Designer 3D has received a significant update to improve speed, precision, and usability:

  • Faster Performance: Create designs more quickly and edit efficiently with manual saving and instant design search.

  • Increased Accuracy: Calculations are aligned with project parameters to ensure consistent data reliability.

  • Streamlined Workflow: Navigate more easily with enhanced search functions, clearer construction visibility, and advanced data tables.

Recalculated results may differ but are now more accurate. Contact support for questions or concerns.

Quantified reversibility in Building Circularity v2

The Building Circularity v2 tool now provides a more detailed assessment of building material reversibility. Developed in partnership with Aalto University, this update replaces the former 'Design for Disassembly' checkbox with a quantified result, offering precise data for circularity evaluations.

Product LCA & EPD updates

Automated concrete EPDs for North America

The new Concrete EPD Generator is now NRMCA verified, ensuring compliance with NRMCA GPI v3.0 and NSF PCR 1112-19.

  • Streamlined Verification: Enables fully automated EPD publishing to the NRMCA program following initial site verification.

  • Rapid Calculations: Generates rapid LCA calculations using Ecoinvent 3.4, specifically tailored for Ready-Mixed Concrete (RMC) mixes.

Future-proof scenario documentation for EPD Hub

New optional fields for scenario documentation have been added to the EPD Description query in EPD Hub v3. These fields help users prepare for upcoming Product Category Rule (PCR) changes, allowing for proactive compliance before the new requirements become mandatory.

Instant feedback with EPD Quality Checker

The EPD Quality Checker now runs during internal verification to provide instant quality feedback on both published and project EPDs. This Power User feature flags potential issues automatically to ensure accurate submissions.

Expanded EPD templates library

  • New Templates: Damp proof membranes, Plastic valves, and Entrance Control Systems.

  • Updated Templates: Firestop Blocks, Fire Protection Seals, GGBS, HDG Modular Connectors, Height-Adjustable Desks, and High-Pressure Laminate (HPL).

Plugin updates

Visualize and import BIM data with IFC File Viewer (BETA)

BETA testers with a commercial Building LCA license can now streamline their BIM workflows with the new IFC File Viewer. This tool supports seamless IFC file uploads, 3D model visualization, and direct data import. Join the BETA by commenting on the community post to request access.

Local updates

Compliance with Finland's latest carbon assessment draft

A new Finnish Carbon Assessment Tool is available, allowing users to perform calculations according to the latest (12/2024) draft of Finland's upcoming regulatory methodology.

  • Flexible End-of-Life: Choose between EPD data or scenarios from the Finnish national carbon database.

  • Accurate Wastage: Utilize installation wastage rates directly from the national database.

  • Biogenic Tracking: Designate wooden elements as long-term biogenic carbon storage.

  • Standardized Reporting: Receive comprehensive results reported in kg CO2e/year/m² of heated net area.

Database expansion

The database now includes 4,249 new verified industry EPDs. These additions enhance regional accuracy and material representation for both construction and manufacturing.

An additional 91 generic datasets have been added, including:

  • Power & Utility: A comprehensive range of utility poles (wood, concrete, glass fiber-reinforced plastic) and transmission towers (single and double-circuit galvanized steel).

  • Ready-Mix Concrete: Expanded data for various strength classes (C12/15 to C50/60) and cement compositions (Portland, slag, fly ash, blast furnace).

  • Gypsum: New generic gypsum plaster board entries with specified density and thickness.
