Portfolio Analytics

Updated over a week ago

Analyze, compare, and manage sustainability performance across all your building projects

Portfolio Analytics helps architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals monitor and improve the environmental performance of multiple projects in one place.

It combines project-level life-cycle assessment (LCA) results with One Click LCA’s global environmental datasets to deliver clear insights into embodied carbon, circularity, and material use across your entire project portfolio.

With Portfolio Analytics, sustainability teams can make data-driven decisions, track progress toward decarbonization targets, and communicate verified performance with internal and external stakeholders.

Access options

Portfolio Analytics is available as part of selected One Click LCA licenses for enterprise and AEC customers.

To enable Portfolio Analytics for your organization, contact your Account Manager or email [email protected].

Key benefits

  • See all projects in one view: Gain full visibility of your organization’s building LCA portfolio in a single, interactive dashboard.

  • Track performance against targets: Monitor embodied carbon reduction from baseline to as-built designs.

  • Benchmark performance: Compare portfolio results against industry data, carbon benchmarks, and regulatory limits.

  • Identify improvement opportunities: Pinpoint top-performing and underperforming projects to focus decarbonization efforts.

  • Understand material use: Review which materials and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are most frequently applied across projects.

  • Generate clear reports: Export tables, charts, and summaries for internal reporting, sustainability disclosures, and client presentations.

Who it is for

Portfolio Analytics supports AEC organizations managing large project portfolios and sustainability goals.

It is particularly valuable for:

  • Heads of Sustainability – to monitor progress toward company-wide carbon and circularity objectives.

  • Sustainability Managers and Analysts – to aggregate and report consistent performance metrics across projects.

  • Design and Engineering Teams – to align design decisions with portfolio-level sustainability strategies.

  • Procurement and Materials Teams – to understand material choices, EPD usage, and supplier performance across markets.

Getting started

1. Log in to One Click LCA
Access Portfolio Analytics from the Analytics tab in the top navigation bar.

2. View your portfolio summary
See your organization’s projects in a unified dashboard with metrics such as global warming potential (GWP), mass intensity, and circularity.

3. Filter and group projects
Filter by region, project type, design stage, or custom tags to identify patterns and trends.

4. Drill down into project details
Select any project to view detailed design results or compare multiple projects side by side.

5. Export results
Export data and visual summaries to Excel for reporting, analysis, or sharing.

Managing project data

Portfolio Analytics automatically aggregates finalized results from your organization’s LCA projects. To ensure accurate reporting, verify that each project assessment is complete and up to date in One Click LCA before analysis. Data replication occurs regularly to reflect the most current results available in your organization’s workspace.

Below are requirements and recommendations to help ensure your Portfolio Analytics results are accurate and easy to use.

1. Designating Baseline and As-Built Designs

For accurate portfolio-level reporting, you must designate one design per project as the baseline and one as the latest status. This ensures consistent comparisons across time and across projects.

  • Baseline design: Represents the initial or reference version of the project.

  • As-built or latest design: Reflects the final or most recent design used for reporting.

To designate a design:

  1. Open your project in One Click LCA.

  2. Navigate to the Designs.

  3. Select the relevant design.

  4. In the Design properties panel, set its designation under Design status (e.g., Baseline or Latest).

  5. Save your changes.

Design 'Baseline' has been set as 'Baseline' and thus is considered in the portfolio analytics as the baseline design for this project.

Design 'Final' has been set as 'latest status' and thus is considered in the portfolio analytics as the final design for this project.

2. Assigning project stages

Each design should have an assigned stage to support meaningful comparisons between equivalent design phases.

Common examples:

  • Concept Design

  • Detailed Design

  • Construction

  • In-use

To assign a stage:

  1. Open the design you want to edit.

  2. Go to Project Design → Modify → Stage of construction.

  3. Select the correct stage from the dropdown.

  4. Save your changes.

3. Optimizing key project information

Accurate project metadata ensures reliable aggregation and comparison in Portfolio Analytics.

Required information:

  • Project name: We recommend using a clear, standardized naming convention (e.g., ProjectName_Country_Year).

  • Building type: Select from the available categories (e.g., residential, office, industrial).

  • Frame type: Select from the available options (e.g. Concrete frame, Steel frame)

To edit project details:

  1. Navigate to Project → More actions → Modify .

  2. Update key descriptive fields.

  3. Save your changes.

4. Adding optional project information

Enrich project data to enhance filtering and insights in your portfolio view.

Optional but valuable fields include:

  • Number of floors

  • Gross floor area

  • Certification pursued (e.g., BREEAM, LEED, DGNB)

  • Investor / final client

  • Design team or contact details

To add this data:

  1. Navigate to Project → More actions → Modify.

  2. Fill in the relevant optional fields.

  3. Save your changes.

5. Setting project and portfolio targets

Targets allow you to track performance improvements and benchmark results across projects.

To set targets:

  1. Open Portfolio Analytics

  2. Toggle the Advanced view

  3. Navigate to the Targets columns

  4. Define measurable goals such as tCO2e or kgCO₂e/m². The value automatically calculates for the second target once the first target is set.

  5. Save your targets for the calculation of project

💡 Tip: Use consistent targets across projects to simplify portfolio benchmarking.

6. Using tags and statuses

Tags and statuses help organize and categorize projects for easier reporting and filtering.

  • Tags: Group projects by region, typology, or business unit (e.g., Residential, Nordics, Certified).

  • Statuses: Indicate progress (e.g., In Design, Completed, Archived).

To apply tags or statuses:

  1. Navigate to Portfolio Analytics → 'Status' and 'Tags' columns.

  2. Select existing statuses or tags.

  3. Or click 'Manage' and '+Add new' and add new statuses or tags.

  4. Choose the current project status.

  5. Save your updates.

7. Best practices for portfolio consistency

  • Maintain a consistent naming and tagging convention across your organization.

  • Always update the baseline and latest status designs before exporting data or running reports.

  • Regularly review and update project metadata to ensure portfolio accuracy.

  • Verify that all finalized results are synchronized before analyzing in Portfolio Analytics.
